In guiding the artistic efforts of these students, my role is to inspire their creativity through concepts and ideas.
However it’s a fine line between encouraging their creativity and giving them advice, which through five decades of personal art experience, I know could help them.
The additional responsibility is understanding the makeup of each young artist, and using the right tact to encourage, rather than discourage them.
These photos from my recent exchange with one of the talented Buffalo Public School students, is a good illustration of this process as we review the progress of his work and determine the next steps.
LEROI: Living in Color Exhibition includes the work of students from Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT,) Buffalo Public Schools (BPS,) Just Buffalo Literary Center (JBLC,) and Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center. The exhibition will be on view at the Burchfield Penney Art Center through March 26, 2023, presented by M&T Bank, with additional support from organizations and individuals throughout the Western New York community.
